New Edition, now before you go thinking about the popular group from the 80's and early 90's (and singing their songs) I've chosen it to describe the experience of having a baby with 10, my amazing wife, next summer. After the home pregnancy test and confirmation from our doctor we were elated that we stuck to our 5 year plan. Excitement is too weak a word and thrilled comes a bit closer.
We were given some really good advice from a family member about the pregnancy and how 10 should begin nurturing now. "Be a Five Star Resort, and be mindful of what you say and do because the baby hears." I was told by a church member of how the he comforted his crying daughter in the hospital by touching her pinky and saying "it's okay, daddy's here" and she stopped (he also said a daughter would break me and soften me up but you guys with daughters already know that:)). Most importantly 10 and I have received plenty of encouragement from our parents/grandparents, immediate/extended family and friends.
Initially we have had quite a few things to do to insure we utilize all the facets of our medical plan. The title of the song "every little step I take" by Bobby Brown is fitting to because we’ve taken a bunch so far. What books to read? Which OB? Which hospital? Solution…started with the traditional book “What to Expect When Expecting” (by Hiedi Murkoff, Sharon Mazel, and Charles J. Lockwood) and had one recommended “Pregnancy Sucks For Men/Women” (by Joanne and Jeffery Kimes ). We found a doctor nearby that’s affiliated with a newly built hospital and we have “20 questions” or so to see if she is what the Lord wants for our pregnancy. Last, but not least, we have two apps on our iPhones that give weekly updates as well as article and video links for more information.
Since finding out I have become somewhat of a guesser of what's on the menu; however, my number one request has been an egg omelet with potato, sausage and cheese. I know I'll be making quite a few more in the coming months because I want the best nutrition for 10. Another staple of her diet has become grapefruit. Grapefruit in fact is excellent for her blood type (“Eating Right for Your Type” by Dr. Peter J. D'Adamo) with her body metabolizing it as an alkaline aiding in digestion and a good source of vitamin C.
Yeah, yeah I know I'm along for the ride; however, the thought of being a dad has consumed quite a bit more of my thoughts and prayers. So far it has been a lesson in learning, reading, listening, favor, blessing and prayers. We’re sure glad we waited to embark on this journey after five years and didn't let anything keep us from spending that time together becoming best friends and a great team.

You are so awesome, Steven Hatcher! 10, I've never met you, but you must be pretty good, too. I pray that the pregnancy goes well, and that God blesses you abundantly! He did it for me!
